What is a chemical peel?
It is the application of special safe chemical solutions to the skin to peel off damaged and dead skin and allows new skin to regenerate.
Where can the chemical peel be performed?
Face, neck, chest, hands, arms and back.
What can a chemical peel do?
Chemical peeling is used to treat:
- Adolescent skin
- Acne
- Mild scarring
- To treat fine lines and superficial wrinkles
- For troubled premature aged skin
- To reduce sun damage, aging and damage to the skin by hereditary factors.
- To treat pigmentation, sun spots, age spots, liver spots, freckles, caused by birth control pills and pigmentation caused by pregnancy
- To treat skin with dull texture and color
Results of the chemical peels can be enhanced by laser or IPL facial rejuvenation treatments or Microdermabrasion
How is the procedure done?
Step 1: You will be seated facing a source of cool air by a fan or smart cool air.
Step 2: (Skin prep) Make up and skin oils will be removed with skin preparation solution (Isopropyl alcohol, 70%, acetone 30%).
Step 3: (Solution for peels) Application of 7% TCA with 2% salicylic acid will be applied to the skin using 2 X 2 gauge. This solution is allowed to remain in contact till warmth; tingling or slight frosting is noticed.
Step 4: Using a 2 X 2 gauge, 0.4% retinoic acid solution is applied to the areas covering the initial application of TCA and salicylic acid.
Allow both to remain on skin for five hours before washing off, the longer the better. Dry make up powder may be applied immediately.
Step 5: Repeat once a month or maintenance four times a year for good continuous results.
What will I expect after chemical peel?
As this is a superficial peel you may notice mild burning sensation or slight peel.
What precaution should I take?
You must avoid exposure to sun immediately after the peel. Use SPF 35 when in sun.
What are the limitations of chemical peels?
It does not remove deep scars, loose and sagging skin and broken vessels.
